Gun Owners of America Sues Jacksonville Over Gun-Free Zones

Gun Owners of America, Gun Owners Foundation, Florida Carry, and individual plaintiffs sued Jacksonville, Sheriff T.K. Waters, and Mayor Donna Deegan over alleged enforcement of firearm restrictions that exceed Florida’s statewide preemption law. The complaint challenges policies and practices at several city-related venues, including EverBank Stadium, the Florida Theatre, the Jacksonville Center for Performing Arts, and a Jacksonville gun show. Plaintiffs argue that Jacksonville cannot impose broader firearm prohibitions through venue rules, security instructions, or law-enforcement practices instead of formal ordinances. They seek declaratory and injunctive relief, damages, attorney fees, and potentially statutory fines against the mayor and sheriff. The video emphasizes that these are unproven allegations in a newly filed case, not a court ruling or legal authorization to carry firearms in currently restricted locations.
