Work Sharp’s New Model is an EDC-Friendly Knife Sharpener

We suppose it was only a matter of time before we saw something like this. Work Sharp has created and released the Folding Field Sharpener, a gadget that packs the bare sharpening essentials into a pocketable EDC item.

If you’ve ever used the original “fixed” Guided Field Sharpener, you’ll know that it is all about cramming the most functionality into as small a space as possible. That’s the same principle at work on the Folding Field Sharpener; each of its two folding arms contains a sharpening plate: on one side, there’s the 400-grit diamond plate, on the other, the fine grit ceramic plate.

You can pocket the Folding Field Sharpener just like a knife

Obviously, the set-up here is not capable of the range of jobs that an at-home set-up can do, but the basics seem to be covered. The diamond plate should provide the meat and potatoes maintenance and material removal, while the diamond plate stands ready for honing and re-centering an edge. Both sides even have angle guides built in to maintain consistency: 20 degrees on the diamond side, 25 on the ceramic.

All of this fits into a rectangular chassis that folds in the middle, clamshell-style – but the real kicker here is the inclusion of a pocket knife style clip. That means that the Folding Field Sharpener can be taken along in a pocket, or clipped to a backpack strap, with relative ease, and be at hand when the time for sharpening comes. Work Sharp lists the weight of the Folding Field Sharpener at 4.6 oz.

The Folding Field Sharpener is available now.
