Trump attends Republican fundraiser in Minnesota hours after Barron’s Florida graduation: Live
Donald Trump will hold his first rally in New York since 2016 with an event planned in the South Bronx next week as his hush money trial enters its final stages.
The Trump campaign has filed a permit for an event in Crotona Park at 6pm on 23 May and 3,500 people can attend. The former president last held a rally in his native state in Buffalo in 2016 but has not attempted anything since.
It is an especially bold move given Joe Biden handily won both the five boroughs of New York City and the state itself by a large margin.
The former president was in Florida on Friday for his son Barron’s high school graduation, for which Judge Juan Merchan scheduled a day off for the court as the prosecution in Mr Trump’s criminal trial nears the close of its case.
At a fundraiser in Minnesota later in the day, the former president falsely claimed he won the state in both 2016 and 2020, and attacked both President Biden and CNN over the highly-anticipated upcoming presidential debate.
Mr Trump said he wants the president to take a drug test before they face off on 27 June.
‘Army of puppets’: Seth Meyers teases Republicans supporting Trump at his criminal trial
Seth Myers poked fun at Donald Trump’s “army” of Republican “puppets” that have taken it upon themselves to act as the former president’s mouthpiece while he’s prohibited from speaking publicly about his hush money trial.
In March, Mr Trump, 77, was issued a gag order from Justice Juan Merchan, who’s overseeing the criminal trial, in an attempt to stop him from making statements about jurors, witnesses and families of the judge and prosecutors.
These GOP lawmakers were just some of Mr Trump’s loyalists in the firing line on Thursday’s episode of Late Night with Seth Myers.

Take the stand or admit you’re a coward, new ad taunts Trump
Donald Trump has been taunted to take the stand in his New York hush money trial in a new advert which uses the former president’s own words against him.
The ad, from centre-left group Third Way, implores Mr Trump to “take the stand” or “admit you’re a coward” by featuring a 2016 quote from the former president where he asks, “If you’re innocent, why are you taking the Fifth?”

Jan 6: Conservative scion sentenced to 45 months in prison
Leo Brent Bozell IV, the scion of a prominent family of conservative activists, was sentenced to 45 months in prison in a Washington, DC, federal court for his role in the January 6 insurrection at the US Capitol.
During the insurrection, Bozell pushed past police, broke a windowpane in the Senate building, chased a Capitol Police officer toward the Senate chamber, and entered both then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office and the Senate floor, according to prosecutors, as hundreds of Trump supporters sought to stop the certification of Joe Biden’s 2020 election win.
“Without people like Mr Bozell, the riot doesn’t happen,” prosecutor Ashley Akers said during sentencing. “He himself facilitated access to the Capitol building for hundreds of other rioters,” she added.

Upside-down flag at Justice Alito’s home another blow for Supreme Court under fire
An upside-down US flag has long been a sign of dire distress and a versatile symbol of protest. But in January 2021, when it flew over the home of Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito, it was largely seen in connection with a specific cause: the false claim by then-President Donald Trump’s supporters that the 2020 election had been marred by fraud.
The revelation this week about the flag flying at Alito’s home was the latest blow to a Supreme Court that was already under fire as it considers unprecedented cases against Trump and some of those charged with rioting at the US Capitol on January 6, 2021.
Alito has said the flag was briefly flown by his wife amid a dispute with neighbors and he had no part in it. But the incident reported by The New York Times adds to concerns about an institution that’s increasingly seen as partisan and lacking strict ethical guidelines.
Giuliani sings ‘New York, New York’ at party before being served with court papers
Rudy Giuliani sang “New York, New York” at his 80th birthday party before being served with notice of his Arizona indictment. According to the New York Post, two officials with Arizona’s attorney general’s office arrived at the gathering around 11pm to hand Mr Giuliani the papers in the case alleging he and 17 others were involved in a 2020 election interference plot. The former New York City mayor was celebrating his birthday in Palm Beach, and a video shows him signing during the party. “It’s unfortunate that they chose to barge up and startle guests during a celebration of this man’s 80th birthday,” Mr Giuliani’s political advisor, Ted Goodman, told the Post. Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes confirmed via social media that Mr Giuliani had been served.

London mayor says Trump is racist, sexist and homophobic and should be ‘called out’
Sadiq Khan has labelled the Republican presidential candidate racist, sexist and homophobic – and warned that the Labour Party, widely expected to win the next UK general election, must do more to “call him out”.
With Trump challenging for the presidency once again, Labour’s shadow foreign secretary David Lammy suggested during a bridge-building trip with Republicans in Washington DC last week that their presidential candidate in the upcoming elections was “often misunderstood” on European policy.
But speaking after being re-elected for a third term as London’s mayor, Khan insisted Trump was far from misunderstood.
Andy Gregory reports on what he had to say.
