POTD: Turning In My Issued Pistol- It May Have Been My Last
The Glock 17 Gen 5 MOS you see above was my last issued pistol, which I had to give up once I resigned after 15 years with my police department. Of my 21-year career in law enforcement, this was the fourth pistol I was issued, not including my personal Glock 22 I carried on duty for years. Of all the Glocks I’ve carried on duty, this Glock 17 Gen 5 MOS has been my favorite!
As pictured, my issued pistol was equipped with Trijicon Suppressor Height Night Sights, a Holosun 508T Red Dot, a Plus 2 magazine base plate, and my personal Streamlight TLR-1 weapon light. I certainly didn’t feel undergunned with this combination, and I was quite proficient with it. As I gave it a light cleaning on my last day, I wished I could’ve kept it. Time will tell if this was my last issued pistol, but if so, perhaps one day I’ll recreate this setup.
As the department armorer, I also added a little extra feature to the loaded chamber indicator nubs by painting the little ledge bright orange with fingernail polish on everyone’s issued pistols. I also added some white fingernail polish to the roll marks on my own.
For those of you who have been issued a pistol, what was your last one, and what one do you miss the most? If you could spec out your own duty pistol, what gun and accessories would you put together?
