Iowa police officer caught in tornado after saving campers from storm | News
An Iowa police officer was caught in a tornado after rescuing campers from the storm.
Bodycam footage shared by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office shows sergeant Todd Dollen riding out the tornado in his vehicle while it passed over the top of him on Tuesday 21 May.
He was evacuating people from Hacklebarney Campground near US Highway 34 and US Highway 71.
Sgt. Dollen was able to get some campers to shelter before a tree fell in front of his vehicle and blocked him from seeking shelter for himself.
“While Montgomery County sustained widespread damage to the eastern portion of the county, we are thankful there were no major injuries and are thinking of those who were impacted by the storm,” the sheriff’s office wrote alongside the video.
