Buck Brings MagnaCut to the Alpha Guide

The September Buck of the Month has arrived and it should please steel-lovin’ outdoorsmen everywhere. This month the 663 Alpha Guide gets pimped up with new handle scales, new blade steel, and a retooled color scheme.

The Alpha Guide has classic Buck lines, but is basically a brand new knife. It hit shelves just last year, completing a new series alongside the Alpha Scout and Alpha Hunter. The Guide is the biggest of the lot, with a 4.38-inch drop point blade. The name “Guide” implies versatlity, knowledge, the ability to handle unexpected detours – and that’s the kind of knife the Guide is, a fresh entry in the classic all-purpose category.

The BotM Alpha Guide’s sheath is Kydex, but it looks like carbon fiber

That reliable drop point blade, on this BotM flavor, is rocking the unsurprising but certainly welcome MagnaCut blade steel upgrade. All-purpose outdoors work suits MagnaCut like a glove, thanks to its high edge retention and stain resistant properties – not that corrosion would be a major worry on this particular knife, because Buck also hit the blade with a tungsten Cerakote; in addition to its warding properties, it pairs nicely on a visual level with the other new material offered here.

No Dymalux or Richlite scales here: Buck dressed this Alpha Guide for success with scales made of carbon fiber. The carbon fiber has a twill pattern, which gives it a different look than standard issue CF, a little more rugged, a little more rustic, but still very classy. To top it off, Buck gave the Kydex sheath a carbon fiber pattern of its own, so even when the BotM Alpha Guide is on your belt it stands out from the pack. No noticeable weight savings compared to the standard flavors, though.

This one is available now.
