Boker Adds New Model to Modern Folder Series
Much of our recent Boker coverage has centered around their collaborations with outside designers. This time, we’re talking about the Modern Gentleman, a new folder from the in-house crew.
The “Gent’s Folder” knife genre is much less about specs, and much more about style; there are big and small folders which could reasonably be described as gent’s folders. The Modern Gentleman earns the designation with its looks, and lands in the EDC zone with a 2.95-inch blade. The slim drop point profile brings to mind the Modern Trapper, a newish, in-house Boker Plus release. Like that knife, the Modern Gentleman opens with a flipper tab only, although its blade is coated with a TiNi coating to give it a subdued look.
The blade steel is Nitro-V, a well-balanced, nitrogen-enhanced stainless that is becoming more prevalent this year, both in Boker’s lineup and the knife market as a whole. It is generally considered to be a lightly enhanced version of AEB-L, which itself has enjoyed a long career in both custom and production circles – especially the former. In role as an light to medium duty EDC cutter, Nitro-V’s performance should be more than adequate – and its natural rust resistance is further bolstered by the aforementioned blade coating.
The handle is composed of a steel bolster (also coated) and a natural canvas Micarta scale underneath – a look that is very much in line with the Modern Trapper. But the profile is very different, a smooth arcing shape that allows for a full four-finger grip. As befits a gent’s carry folder the Modern Gentleman is nice and light at 2.26 oz., and it comes with a deep carry pocket clip for unobtrusive carry. Unfortunately the clip is non-reversible on this liner lock knife.
The Modern Gentleman will be available in September.
