Alexey Ponomarev Designs Mid-Sized Dagger Folder for Boker
Coverage of the mid-year Boker releases continues with the imposing Cheus, an aggressive dagger-styled folder from Alexey Ponomarev of the appropriately named Brutalica Knives.
In June, we wrote about the Boker Atropos, a design from Chuck Gedraitis based on mid-20th century fighting knives. While the Cheus is ultimately a quite different knife, the two blades certainly both partake in the martial knife design elements. For the Cheus, those elements begin with the blade, a 3.54-inch piece of steel with the leaf-like profile of a classic dagger. It is ground with only a single edge, however, which allows the Cheus to be legal in more places.
Beyond any tactical applications, the Cheus could certainly be a day-to-day user for anybody with a preference for mid-sized blades and eye-catching aggro aesthetics. It opens with a flipper that is completely concealed by the guard when the knife is open, giving the visuals a near perfect symmetry, an element further underlined by the perforated fuller down the center of the blade. As was the case on the also-new Sanjo, the blade steel here is that time-tested performer, VG-10.
The dagger-like symmetry and design influence continues on the handle, with its two-way guard and flared pommel back end. The scales are black G-10 laid over full liners (stainless steel of course). Ponomarev chose to make this knife a liner lock, and to give it a deep carry pocket clip, also made from stainless steel. The Cheus’s weight is a very reasonable 3.95 oz.
Boker’s European website lists the release date for this one as August 16th.
