New Boker Bowie Blends in Chopper Elements

Boker has given just about every knife format a shot at least once; after all, they put out more new models each year than some companies release in five. But you don’t see a ton of choppers from the company, which makes the new, Dave Wenger-designed Northwood Bowie particularly interesting.
The Northwood Bowie does not look like your average bowie knife – that much is clear at a glance. But the unusual elements go deeper than the overall profile. The 10.71-inch blade is divided in two different sections, ground differently for different applications. The outer portion has a more acute edge bevel, making it the region of choice for chopping and general cutting.

The inner portion is a bit shorter, with a more obtuse edge angle, making it stout enough for working with wood, whether that be carving, making feather sticks, or batonning. For these latter tasks in particular, the choice of 1095 carbon steel will fit like a glove: it’s impact resistant, easy to sharpen (and repair), and unlikely to give out when the going gets tough.
A fittingly stout, large handle is paired to this beefy blade. The pommel flare keeps the user’s hand from slipping off the back end, while a slight curvature and the unsharpened choil beneath the edge perform a similar function on the business end. The scales themselves are made from Micarta of a suitably outdoorsy forest green hue.
The Northwood Bowie is available now.
