Buck’s Practical 113 Skinner is the Limited Edition Release for August

After a couple of folder selections for Buck of the Month, the company has returned to the fixed blade genre for the August BotM knife. The 113 Ranger Skinner gets dressed up with improved steel and a handsome handle material swap.

The core of Buck’s fixed blade lineup targets the needs of outdoorsmen, so of course there would be a skinner-style model in the mix. The 113 Skinner is just that, with a compact, maneuverable drop point blade paired to an arcing, comfortable handle. It’s a sensible, clean design that’s work ready and intuitive. Funnily enough, the 113 Skinner first entered Buck’s lineup as a limited edition model, but was popular enough to get inducted into standard production.

You never really know what you’re going to get with a Buck of the Month release: sometimes the changes are merely cosmetic, and sometimes they have impact on performance. The August 113 Skinner falls into the latter camp, as the blade steel has been bumped up to S35VN – a big jump in performance over the 420HC that comes standard, with notably higher edge retention being the main selling point. As is always the case at Buck, a Paul Bos heat treat ensures the performance of the steel is at its peak.

Beneath the extra large nickel silver bolster, the scales on the BotM Skinner are made from Richlite, a synthetic made from paper that has been seeing a lot of play amongst knife companies in recent times. The Richlite here is black and brown, scalloped to show off the layers of each color. If you want to carry and not just collect your BotM 113 Skinner, a black leather sheath is included with the knife. It weighs 4.6 oz.

This one is available now and limited to 500 pieces.
