Modern Slipjoint Saunter Selected for July Buck of the Month
Heads up collectors: July Buck of the Month is here. This month, the 250 Saunter is getting the BotM treatment, done up with a July 4th-themed color scheme.
Although it’s a fairly recent Buck design, the Saunter has already had an unconventional production history. We first met its acquaintance in 2022, when it was part of that year’s Legacy Collection. Then, a year later at SHOT Show 2023, Buck revealed that the slipjoint was joining the company’s standard production catalog in a different configuration. Now, another year later, it is getting its getting another limited edition drop with a BotM material alteration in tow.
The 2022 Legacy Collection Saunter featured carbon fiber scales and an S35VN blade, which played into its whole “gent’s folder/modern slipjoint” vibe. The standard production Saunter had a slightly more rustic, workhorse-y vibe, with its tan canvas Micarta scales and 154CM steel. For the BotM variant, Buck chose to alter the handle material again; the BotM Saunter’s scales are rendered from a suitably patriotic red/white/blue coloration of custom carbon fiber from CamoCarbon.
There is no standard for Buck of the Month releases: sometimes the company changes multiple elements of a knife, and sometimes they only tweak one or two things. This Saunter model falls into the later camp, with the CamoCarbon scales being the change of note; the steel here, as on the standard model, is 154CM. There is one other small change, however: the lasered “Buck” logo on the blade face is bright red, the anvil white, and the “USA” blue.
The Buck of the Month Saunter dropped yesterday and, as of publication, is still available.
