Blade Show 2024: Kershaw Celebrates 50 Years with Re-release of Legendary Tilt

Last week Kershaw added another batch of new models to its catalog, but it turns out the company was keeping one in the chamber for Blade Show this weekend. To celebrate 50 years in the knife making business, they are releasing an updated version of their famous Tilt model.

Longtime members of the knife community will remember the original Tilt. It released in 2012, a surprising, boundary-pushing release both for Kershaw and the knife world at large. The Tilt was a sort of forerunner to today’s modern premium folder culture, an aspect of the production scene that was just on the cusp of solidifying back then. It was also an unusual knife to see the typically budget-conscious Kershaw, as it was decked out head to toe in super premium materials, including titanium, carbon fiber, and a composite blade with a Vanax 75 edge.

The Anniversary detail on the spine

By the looks of it, Kershaw has done an admirable job in staying true to the original Tilt spirit with this new version, while tastefully updating things so that it can stand out in a very different market. The 2024 Tilt appears to be a little smaller than its predecessor, with a 3.65-inch blade compared to the 4-inch beast on the original. But they didn’t alter the shape, so we have the same highly angular, upturned wharncliffe on offer here. The composite construction is back, of course, with the edge portion here made from CPM-Cru Wear, and the spine portion from 14C28N.

The angularity of the blade is echoed and multiplied by the Tilt’s stylish geometrical handle. At heart, it’s a not-uncommon humpback shape, but done in such severe, triking lines that it really looks unlike anything else in the Kershaw catalog. The primary scale material is titanium, with a stripe of carbon fiber running across its length, and mirrored by a darkened stripe of steel on the blade itself. The sculpted titanium pocket clip has been completely redone here, and is now situated for tip up, right hand carry only. The Sub-Frame Lock 50th Anniversary Tilt weighs 5.7 oz.

This Tilt will be available exclusively through Kershaw’s own website, and they are saying it will be available “soon.”
